Communicate and meet with the principle contractor regarding the design work. Analyse, gather and convey pre-construction information. And to prepare and keep the health and safety file up to date. Architect The architect is responsible for making sure that there will be no risks or hazards whilst still in the design stage of the build. After that is done they must provide information on all the other risks that there could still be and that cannot be completely prevented. The employer has responsibilities that they must follow out so that employees are safe. The employer must ensure health, safety and welfare at work to all of their employees. The employer must prepare a written statement of their general health and safety policy. They are also responsible for the enforcing of safety and reduce the risk to health involved in all the employees areas. The employee also has duties that they must follow out. The employees must take reasonable care in their safety and the safety of those around them who may be affected by their actions. They must also cooperate with the employer so that requirements can be met. COSHH is another important piece of legislation that is used in construction. This legislation helps to protect then workers from handling substances that could be fatal. The legislation ensures that the harmful substances will be supressed so that it is less of a risk to the employees. The legislation also states that employees must be informed about the substance and should have their health monitored if work with hazardous substances. Many businesses use substances that can be harmful to workers and these businesses should inform and train employees so that the substances can be handled. The employee has duties that they must carry out whilst enforcing the COSHH act. They must ensure that the warning labels are left on the containers and inform management of and situation involving the substances that could be dangerous. The final legislation is the WAH. This act is a law. This legislation ensures that before workers start working at a height the working must be planned and organized, the workers must be competent. The work must be assessed before the workers go up and the equipment that they are using must be the correct equipment. The risk of surfaces that may be fragile should be controlled and supported and the equipment that is used must be properly inspected and maintained. The duty holder must be responsible for the legislation being put into practice. The employer must ensure that all of the work is planned and organized and is carried out by a competent employee. The Speaker's Role in Three Poems by Howard, Wyatt, and Raleigh The speakers in "Farewell, False Love," by Sir Walter Raleigh and "My Lute, Awake!" by Sir Thomas Wyatt the Elder have similar motivations, although the poems have differing constructs. Each speaker seeks to unleash his venomous emotions at a woman who has scorned him, by humiliating her through complicated revenge fantasies and savage metaphors. Through this invective, he hopes to convince us of this woman's inward ugliness. Raleigh catalogues a long list of conceits for his false love: she is every horrid thing from a "siren song" to "an idle boy that sleeps in pleasure's lap". The overtone of Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey's "Alas! So All Things Now Do Hold Their Peace!" bears more similarity to that of a soliloquy of lamentation than a libellous study. The speaker seems more preoccupied with his own woe than with shaming his absent love before us, his audience, of whom he seems only peripherally aware. He does not berate the object of his affections for not requiting his love, only regrets that she cannot be with him, drawing a contrast between his heavy inward emotional swings and the peaceful night which outwardly surrounds him. Several centuries after these poets lived, John Stuart Mill would write an essay called "What is Poetry?" that codified a distinction between what he called "poetry" and "eloquence". He writes: . . . when he [the poet] turns round, and addresses himself to another person; when the act of utterance is not itself the end, but a means to an end -- viz., by the feelings he himself expresses, to work upon the feelings, or upon the belief or the will of another; when the expression of his emotions, or of his thoughts tinged ... ...women whom supposedly seduced them in their youthful naivete. The narrator of "My Lute, Awake!" takes a distinct pleasure in conjuring up a future where his lover, not he, lies "Plaining in vain unto the moon." Raleigh's vehement yet affected language are entirely out of keeping with the innocent-schoolboy image of himself he would have us believe. Surrey's speaker does not need to protest that he was beguiled, nor make any excuse for his misplaced emotion, because he is not aware of our listening, and therefore can feel no embarrassment at our knowing he was rejected. These three poems, then, are written in the voice of the spurned lover. In two of them, this lover is cognizant of our presence and seeks to impress us with his impassivity; but in the third, he pours out his sorrow and minds not whether we think the less of him for his poor choice of women. Favorite Food Essay

My favorite food would have to be a well-made juicy, all the way cooked cheeseburger. I have been eating cheeseburgers throughout my entire life. There has not been a time that I can remember where I have ever turned a cheeseburger. In the following paragraphs I will share with you my earliest recollections of eating a cheeseburger, some of my favorite cheeseburgers, and the origins of the cheeseburger itself. When I was younger I would always love when my grandparents would take me to McDonalds. I would always get their hamburger happy meal, as most of you know the happy meal consisted of a small juicy hamburger with mustard, ketchup, small diced onions, and juicy pickles accompanied by salty fries, a small toy, and the drink of your choice served in a small red cardboard box. As I grew older I started to want bigger portions of my favorite food. Every time my family and I visited my grandfather, he would make the biggest juiciest hamburgers I have ever seen. He would take a big handful of ground beef and throw it on the grill, where he would grill it to perfection. He served his cheeseburgers with two big red juicy tomatoes, diced onions, a couple of juicy pickles, ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, a slice of American cheese, with the outer layer consisting of freshly toasted buns. To this day I have not eaten a better tasting cheeseburger. There are numerous fast food restaurants all around the world that sell millions of delicious and juicy hamburgers every day. My personal favorite is the extremely popular Big Mac served at McDonalds. As I stated before , I grew up eating McDonald’s hamburger happy meal, as I grew older I upgraded to the Big Mac. This delicious burger consists of three fresh toasted sesame seed buns, a handful of lettuce, small diced onions, two juicy ground beef patties, and it is the only hamburger that McDonalds sells that comes with Mac sauce on it. While being employed at McDonalds I soon realized that I was not the only one who loved this gigantic sandwich. I made many of these burgers everyday while working there. It is one of the few hamburgers that will leave customers fully satisfied after eating it. A very close second choice is the double quarter pounder that is also sold at McDonalds, which is also a fan favorite. This delicious burger is served with two sesame seed toasted buns, onions, pickles, mustard, ketchup, two ground beef patties, and two slices of American cheese. Both of these burgers are tasty, juicy, and delicious. There is much speculation on who created the first hamburger, many individuals and their respective families claim to have created the first hamburger. The hamburger first becomes popular in 1904, at the World’s Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. The hamburger business began in 1902, on the east side of Clarinda’s Courthouse Square by an old German gentleman named Ail Wahl. He almost ran all the cafes out of business because his burgers were so good. Back then, hamburgers were sold for a nickel whereas today you have to pay over a dollar. Over a century later the hamburger is being sold at almost every restaurant all across the world. The hamburger has come a long way since its humble beginnings. This concludes my report on hamburgers, which has been and always will be my favorite food. The firm sells their product either at average prices or lower prices than their rivals. They also use efficient distribution channels or mature services and products to make more profits. Another one is differentiation strategy. By creating unique products and services, the firms can attract more customers. They should be a leader of the scientific research, have a highly creative and skilled product development team, strong sales ability and influential reputation for innovation and quality. What is more, the strategy concentrates on achieving cost advantage and differentiation by developing their strengths and occupying narrow markets. By the way, it is not rational to exploit the three strategies at the same time, since no business can do everything well. Passion for College Students Essay

College students traditionally show pride towards their respective school. What makes students so enthusiastic for their school? In Laura Randall’s â€Å"Things You Only Do in College† and David Berreby’s â€Å"It Takes a Tribe† both writers explore college culture but come up with decidedly different results. Randall argues that college students’ traditions are embarrassing to the university, and students should be focusing on schoolwork not traditions; but Berreby suggests traditions are for the pride which students have for their school. In this essay I argue that students are passionate for their school, and the traditions they participate in are for the pride they have for the school. Randall discusses the traditions at various universities, or the hazing rituals for the fraternities and sororities on the many campuses. In her writing she looks disgusted that colleges are not trying to stop these â€Å"stupid traditions† in Randall’s mind. She states â€Å"Today’s traditions are more likely to involve nudity, fire, and intoxicants and be closely monitored by publicity-wary administrators† (Randall, 211). This quote shows the disappointment for college students and their traditions. Randall is saying there are not any traditions which are good for the university, or the people that participate. Randall implies that these traditions are embarrassing to the universities. In Randall’s writing â€Å"Things You Only Do In College† she discusses tradition students participate in, which she finds embarrassing. Randall believes there should be more money pumped into schools academic fields, because that is the reason the students are there in the first place. She believes the universities should crack down on the traditions which get students in trouble. However, most of these traditions were started over school pride. For example, students will go streaking to break out of their â€Å"shell† and show their school spirit. However, Randall believes these traditions are pointless, and they have no meaning of school pride. Randall writes â€Å"Like their zanier predecessors, they are a long-remembered part of the college experience if occasionally rowdy, childish, illegal, or all three† (Randall, 211). In this quote, a zanier predecessor means the crazy people who did this before them. This passage states that traditions are a part of the college experience, even though they are mostly rambunctious. Traditions might be outlawed, or looked down upon them by the administrators of the university, but the students do these rowdy acts for the pride they have for the university. Sure students will go streaking, and jump into a lake, but they do it for fun, and for their pride of the university. If the students do not care for the university they would not do something so odd for the fun of it. The athletics are what make students passionate for the university. Most weird traditions are started in support for the athletics. The athletics are supported by the student body, and it brings everyone together to do these traditions. In David Berreby’s essay â€Å"It Takes a Tribe† he talks about school pride, and how most college students view it’s us vs. them. David Berreby talks about many rivalries between colleges, and the majority of them are started by athletics. There are academic rivalries between many universities around the country; for example Harvard/Yale, or Princeton/Penn. However, most people when speaking of a rivalry think of some kind of athletics competition. There are students however, who do not know all of the traditions when they first go to their school. They pick them up as they go along. Berreby writes â€Å"They’ll be singing their school songs and cherishing the traditions (just as soon as they learn what they are† (Berreby, 207). In this quote he is saying there are many students who apply to colleges for name recognition. However, when they get to the university or college they will participate in the traditions. Not every student at Penn State knows the fight song or the alma mater. However, when they go to a football game or any other sporting event they will be standing proudly singing that same fight song or alma mater. Berreby states that â€Å"They’ll learn contempt for that rival university, Oklahoma to their Texas, Sacramento State to their U. C. Davis, Annapolis to their West Point† (Berreby, 207). This quote is saying the students will also learn who the rival university is, and they will build a hatred for them, and root against them every chance they get. He also talks about some of the bigger rivalries between colleges. Oklahoma and Texas have been rivals for years, but in the public eye society view this rivalry for sports. No one thinks about whose graduates succeed more after college. Society’s views on rivalries deal with sports, and college students live off their sports teams. If the teams do well then the campus is always more lively, but if the teams lose there is a down feeling all throughout the campus. For example, before Penn State played Michigan in football this year there was a huge anticipation for the game. Most of my friends and me would torture the people who drove from Michigan to the game. Then, after Penn State lost there was a huge negativity all throughout main campus, and I could tell especially from talking to people even a couple days or weeks afterwards. David Berreby in his essay â€Å"It Takes a Tribe† discusses college rivalries, and how students are passionate for their schools for the rivalries. David Berreby and Laura Randall both write about college traditions, and the students that participate in them. However, they both have very different opinions on the traditions. Randall believes the universities are tired of the traditions that students take a part in. She also implies that there needs to be more focus in the classroom. However, Berreby writes about how students are doing these traditions because of the pride they have for the university. He implies that students also love the rivalry between colleges. In colleges around the world students have different opinions on the universities they attend. In my college experience I have found nothing that makes me more excited than sporting events. Of course I go to class because that is the reason why any student goes to college. However, my passion for this university goes beyond the sporting events. The pride I have is different than what others have. Although, I do participate in all the traditions at Penn State, whether it’s going to the football game, and singing the alma mater, or singing Hey Baby in between the third and fourth quarter of a football game. They are all traditions which students that are enthusiastic for this university participate in. Students everywhere have some type of school pride, but all express it differently. Whether it’s streaking, or hazing they all have a meaning.
